For the Pendraken painting competiton’s Mounted category, I painted some French  chasseurs à cheval, all from the 16th regiment including the standard bearer featured in Post 70. I painted an officer conversion (see Post 45) and an elite company conversion (see Post 65) both with modelled bearskin colpacks and twin fringed-epaulettes. If I had been thinking straight, I wouldn’t have chosen to paint cavalrymen for the competition that had blue on green stripes and buttons running down their trousers as they proved rather tricky to photograph, never mind paint!
